ILCAWA (International Laser Class Association of Western Australia) is the home of ILCA sailing in Western Australia, supporting sailors of all ages and abilities—from juniors taking their first steps into racing through to youth, masters, and international competitors. With a proud history dating back to the 1970s and formally established in Perth in 1980, ILCAWA is the official Western Australian district association for the ILCA class.
We connect sailors to a vibrant racing and training community, providing pathways from local club racing to state, national, and world championship events. Throughout the year, ILCAWA coordinates State Championships, supports regattas across Western Australia, delivers coaching and development opportunities, and helps foster lifelong friendships through the sport of sailing.
As a not-for-profit association, we are committed to growing the class and supporting the next generation of sailors. Through fundraising initiatives and solidarity programs, we assist young athletes with equipment, travel, and championship opportunities both within Australia and overseas.
Whether you're new to sailing, returning to the sport, or chasing your next championship start line, there's a place for you in the ILCAWA community.
Join us on the water and discover why the ILCA is one of the world's most popular and competitive sailing classes.
What is an ILCA?
The ILCA (formerly Laser) is a single handed racing dinghy. It has one hull but 3 rigs (ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7) that adjust to suit every age, size and skill level.
The ILCA boat is a proven pathway, sailed at local sailing clubs, to national and international regattas including the Olympics.
It’s a thrilling, tactical and fair one-design racing. So come and join the class that never outgrows you!
More than an EOFY Donation
ILCAWA is training a team to attend the Oceania and National ILCA Championships this January in Melbourne. Donations contribute towards all the sailors training, coaching and associated travel expenses to attend the event. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
